Tiller Refinishing
This was another fairly easy project if you are handy at refinishing wood products. It is basically the same procedure: strip the wood using a heat gun and putty knife, coarse sand, fine sand, 2 coats of Cetol lite, 3 coats of Cetol marine gloss, reinstall the hardware.  It was a major improvement for only a minor effort.
Not very pretty!
Potential for looking nice

Wear marks from my poor man's tiller tamer
Looks great after sanding
I use a line wrapped around the tiller as a tiller tamer which allows me to go up on the deck while the boat is under sail. Unfortunately, it creates some wear on the tiller when the rope slides over it. I will be seeing if I can find something to prevent that from happenning.
I love making old wood look new
I think the middle is mahogany
2 coats of Cetol lite and 3 coats of marine gloss
I fixed the rivets on the extension
Lookin' wicked smart!
